Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram surprised audiences and added a unique political flair to the festive season by stepping into the role of an actor during the grand Luv Kush Ramlila at Delhi’s iconic Red Fort Maidan.
Oram portrayed Nishadraj Guha—the revered tribal king and a pivotal character from the Ramayana—during the theatrical staging on Wednesday. His performance centered on the emotional episode during Lord Ram’s exile, where Nishadraj Guha welcomes Lord Ram, Lakshman, and Sita to his territory and extends traditional tribal hospitality.
A Meaningful Portrayal
Speaking about his unexpected transition from national politics to the theatrical stage, Oram expressed deep gratitude to the organizers and reflected on the cultural significance of the character:
”I sincerely thank all the office-bearers and members of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee for giving me the opportunity to play the role of Nishad Raj, who was the king of the forest and a leader of tribal and backward communities,” Oram shared.
Drawing a personal connection to the role, the senior BJP leader added, “Since I belong to that community, as a descendant of Nishad Raj, coming from that tradition, some of his elements must be in me. Therefore, I will try, and I am confident that I will succeed.”
From Politics to Performance
Reflecting on his journey into public service and his brief foray into acting, Oram noted that his entry into politics was serendipitous, growing from grassroots party work into a prominent national leadership role.
The Luv Kush Ramlila at Red Fort Maidan is widely recognized as one of Delhi’s most prestigious cultural celebrations, frequently drawing prominent dignitaries, political figures, and massive crowds throughout the Navratri festival.
