Mumbai: The coronavirus situation in the financial hub of the country, Mumbai, has become alarming on the second consecutive day with 8,832 new cases.

Mumbai is facing an acute shortage of blood again due to the rise in coronavirus cases.

The blood supply, mainly at government and civic hospitals is drying up. Also, many centers are running short of common blood type 0+. The situation is likely to get worse as most offices and educational institutes are preferring work from home. Even the latest guidelines do not allow blood donation within 28 days of taking the jab.

According to a civic official, the city faced the same situation last year as well during the pandemic, however, the situation got better in November-December. He added that the problems have increased double-fold due to the second wave of COVID-19.
