Chandigarh: A first-year student of Punjab’s Lovely Professional University (LPU) died by suicide following which it triggered massive protests around the college campus.
According to police, the student, Agni S Dilip, a first-year student of Bachelor of Designing, took the extreme step due to some personal reasons. A suicide note was also recovered from the spot, added the police.
“Prima facie the student was having some personal issues, as the suicide note suggests,” said Phagwara police in a brief statement issued later.
“We have managed the situation after some time as students were sent to their rooms. We alsoinformed the parents of the deceased and they were expected to reach today and we shall proceed further according to the to their statement,” said Phagwara superintendent of police Mukhtiar Rai.
Following the unrest, heavy deployment of police has been made on the university campus, said sources.
