Mayurbhanj: Tensed over frequent elephant menace, locals of Deogaon village here held Dudhiani forest range officer and 10 others captive.
According to reports, a herd of 27 elephants strayed into paddy fields near Dudhiani range and damaged the crops giving tense moments to farmers on Tuesday night. Blaming the situation, the angry villagers held forester Phaguram Besra and 10 elephant chasers captive.
The locals also demanded compensation for the loss of the crops.
Reportedly, the forester and elephant chasers have been rescued by the police.
