Kendrapara: An immersion festival turned fatal after one of the revelers died due to electrocution and three sustained critical burn injuries at Kanakasoti village near Marshaghai in the district on Tuesday.
The DJ trolley which was engaged in the procession for immersion of Gajalaxmi idols came in contact with the 33 kv live wire. Biswajit Lenka of the same village got electrocuted while trying to separate the wire that touched the DJ trolley.
Three minor boys also sustained burns after coming in contact with him. All of them were admitted to Marshghai Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctor declared Biswajit dead. Three minor boys were shifted to district headquarters hospital.
Villagers alleged that the puja committee had informed the electricity department requesting it to disconnect power for the immersion procession. However, they didn’t pay any attention to the villagers’ approach that led to such a tragic incident, locals alleged.
Meanwhile, police launched an investigation by seizing the DJ trolley.
