Jharsuguda police achieved a major breakthrough in the Belpahar murder case after two prime accused sustained injuries during an encounter.
The incident unfolded near Rklakhman in Belpahar police limits. Police tracked down the suspects, Sunil Mahanand alias Tabu (22) and Chand Banchhor (25), both residents of the Sambalpur-Burla area. When officers approached, the duo opened fire with four rounds. Police responded immediately, hitting both men in the legs.
Authorities rushed the injured suspects to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital. Police confirmed their direct involvement in the Belpahar murder case (Case No. 88/256). Both men already faced multiple serious charges in Sambalpur and Burla police stations.
The encounter highlights the police’s firm stance against violent crime. Officers emphasised that strict action against hardened criminals remains essential to maintain peace and law and order in the region.
