A jhalmuri vendor from West Bengal’s Jhargram district, who recently came into the spotlight after serving snacks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an election campaign visit, has alleged that he received death and bomb threats over the phone.
The vendor, identified as Vikram Sao, said he immediately informed local police authorities after receiving the threatening call. Following his complaint, police reportedly provided him security protection as a precautionary measure.
Speaking to media persons, Vikram Sao said, “I have reported it to the police station. I received a threat call. I have been given police security for safety.”
The incident has triggered concern in the region, especially as the matter surfaced shortly after the Prime Minister’s campaign visit to West Bengal. According to preliminary information, police have started an investigation to identify the source of the threat calls and verify the claims.
Vikram Sao had gained public attention after visuals of him serving jhalmuri to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election campaign went viral on social media. The interaction was widely shared online and drew reactions from supporters and local residents.
Police officials have not yet released detailed information regarding the nature of the threats or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the case. Security arrangements around the vendor’s residence and workplace have reportedly been strengthened until further assessment.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in West Bengal following recent election campaigns and political events across the state.
Authorities are continuing their probe, and further updates are expected after verification of call records and other technical evidence linked to the alleged threats.
