The Hirakud Reservoir in Sambalpur has recorded a water level of 627.93 feet, prompting authorities to keep two sluice gates open — one on the left and one on the right — to regulate inflow from upstream.
According to the Water Resources Department, the reservoir is currently receiving an average inflow of 1,06,241 cusecs, while 68,122 cusecs are being discharged. The outflow includes 32,564 cusecs through spillways, 31,568 cusecs via the power channel, 229 cusecs for industrial use, and 3,791 cusecs through canals (Bargarh Main Canal: 3,290 cusecs, Sasan Main Canal: 450 cusecs, Sambalpur distributary: 51 cusecs).
Downstream, water flow has shown a declining trend: Munduli recorded 2,24,768 cusecs, Baramul 1,66,250 cusecs, Khairmal 1,30,000 cusecs, Patharla 28,878 cusecs, and Belgaon 13,200 cusecs.
Officials noted partial cloud cover and light rainfall in the Hirakud and Burla regions but assured that no flood situation is expected downstream.
