An under-trial prisoner (UTP) died suddenly in the Paralakhemundi Sub-Jail of Gajapati district, sparking allegations of negligence against jail authorities.
The deceased has been identified as Runa Bada Rait, a resident of Jirang village, Atila Sahi, under Raigarh police station.
According to reports, Runa was arrested by Raigarh police on August 7 in connection with a POCSO case and lodged in judicial custody. His family members, who visited him on September 1, claimed his health condition appeared normal at that time.
However, police informed that Runa died at around 3 am on Saturday. The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, but his family has alleged negligence by jail authorities.
