Bhadrak: The Jan Shatabdi Superfast Express enroute to Bhubaneswar from Howrah derailed near Bhadrak railway station on Saturday evening.

According to reports, one bogie (D-1) of the superfast express derailed from the track near Dagarasahi level crossing in Bhadrak after hitting a bull at about 5.50 pm. All passengers are stated to be safe while train services on the route have been affected, sources said.

As per reports, the train was approaching Bhadrak station but the compartment for Persons With Disablities (Divyangjan) attached to the engine derailed just a few kilometres before the station near a level-crossing.

Front two wheels of Guard cum Luggage Van (next to engine) got derailed. No injury or casualties due to this incident. Down line is free from obstruction, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) informed.

According to ECoR, “DRM Khurda Road along with other Branch officials rushed to the spot for rerailment work. A Restoration team has been at work at the accident spot with local officers closely supervising it. It is expected to take half an hour to one hour to separate the affected coach and allow the train to resume its journey.

Since all the passenger coaches are on line and the affected coach is an SLR one, all the passengers are safe. Since there are double lines, it shouldn’t have any impact on traffic. We have a trained team to work at night. So there shouldn’t be any difficulties or delays in carrying out the operation.

SLR coach means Sitting cum Luggage Rake. In a train, there are two SLR coaches. While the first one is next to the engine, the second one is at end of the train. Rerailment work completed at 1910hrs,” the EcoR further informed.
