Authorities rescued four workers trapped for nearly 12 hours inside Adenigada Tunnel No. 4 on the Khordha–Balangir railway line in Boudhagada district.
Continuous rainfall caused water to enter the tunnel late Saturday night, leaving the workers stranded.
Local residents and company officials coordinated the rescue operation. Teams worked through the night to ensure the safe evacuation of the trapped workers. By Sunday morning, all four were brought out safely.
Witnesses said the workers had been inside the tunnel when water levels rose suddenly. Rescue teams used ropes and safety equipment to reach them. The incident highlighted the risks faced by labourers working on infrastructure projects during monsoon conditions.
Officials confirmed that the workers received medical attention after the rescue. The company assured that safety measures would be strengthened to prevent similar incidents.
