Forest Watcher Killed, Three Others Injured In Bear Attack In Nuapada

Komana (Nuapada): A forest department personnel was killed after wild bear attacked him along with other colleagues at Bijakhamana forest under Komana range in Nuapada district. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Dundi, a forest watcher.

Three others were seriously injured in the attack. They are forester Gopal Mahanand, forest guard Shasidhar Thandi and another watcher.

The incident took place while they ventured into the forest to drive away the bear.

A four-member team of the forest department went to the forest after receiving information of a bear roaming in the forest. While the bear first attacked the watcher, other team members fought with the animal to free him. However, all sustained injuries.

Later, Komna forest ranger Devdatta Sutar along with other personnel and local villagers rescued them in a critical condition.  They were shifted to Nuapada district headquarters Hospital for further treatment where Santosh was declared dead.

Meanwhile, locals demanded safety to their lives from wild animals. They staged a road blockade near Komana bus stand paralyzing the vehicular traffic.

Later, local BDO, Tehsildar and police discussed with the irate people and assured them of all possible measure for the safety and security of residents.
