A tragic incident was reported from Odisha’s Rayagada district where a tusker was killed in a train collision in the early hours of Thursday.
The accident took place between Bissamcuttack and Therubali railway stations, near Brundabadi. According to preliminary information, the elephant was hit by a train while crossing or moving near the railway track.
The particular train involved in the collision has not yet been ascertained.
The impact of the collision of the elephant with the train engine left the tusker critically injured. The elephant fell beside the railway track and succumbed to its injuries before authorities could reach the spot.
The local Forest Department was also informed about the elephant’s death. Forest officials subsequently reached the spot and began an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
