The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 48-hour wind warning for the Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas in view of the low pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal.
According to the weather agency, squally winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are very likely over the North and Central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
Similar windy conditions are expected along and off the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh during this period.
Sea likely to remain rough
The IMD has also forecast rough to very rough sea conditions over the North and Central Bay of Bengal for the next 48 hours.
The adverse marine conditions could pose risks to fishing boats and other vessels operating in the affected areas.
Fishermen advised not to venture into sea
In view of the strong winds and rough sea, the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the North and Central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
The advisory covers waters along and off the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh.
Fishermen already at sea have been advised to take necessary precautions and remain alert to changing weather conditions as the low pressure system continues to influence the region.
