Baleshwar’s Jaleswar police have arrested a 27-year-old man from Jharkhand who was allegedly posing as an RTO official and handing over fake documents to goods-vehicle operators near National Highway 60. His associate escaped during the raid, the police said.
The arrested man has been identified as Sambhu Sahu of East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. Police said the duo was operating close to the highway, claiming to be RTO staff and supplying vehicle operators with forged papers in return for money.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the spot and detained Sahu while he was using scanning equipment. His companion fled. Officers seized a printer, electric blower, UPS, thermal receipt printer, monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse, multiport hub, extension board, and two SIM cards from a 5G mobile phone. Four keys, including those of a Hero bike, were also recovered.
Among the documents seized were 20 suspicious fine-receipt slips purportedly issued by the West Bengal RTO, two fake notary seals and stamps, and 15 government stamp papers of doubtful authenticity. West Bengal stamp paper and RTO-style receipts were among the items the group was allegedly transferring to vehicle owners.
Police said five cases linked to fraud or illegal collection of money have been registered in the area over the past four days, leading to the arrest of six persons. Investigation into the fake-document racket and the search for the absconding accused are continuing.
