A 20-year-old student sustained acid burn injuries after three men attacked her near Laxmi Bai College in Delhi’s Ashoka Vihar.
The incident occurred on Sunday while she was on her way to class.
The accused, identified as Jitender, Ishan, and Arman, approached the victim on a motorcycle. According to officials, Ishan handed a bottle to Arman, who threw the acid at her. The victim tried to shield her face with her bag but suffered burns on both hands.
Delhi Police confirmed the assault and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Jitender, a resident of Mukundpur, had allegedly been stalking the victim for over a year. A heated argument between them occurred a month prior to the attack. The victim had repeatedly rejected his advances, according to Delhi University Students’ Union President Aryan Maan.
The college Proctor, Dr. Manraj Gurjar, clarified that the incident happened outside the campus and that the victim is an NCWEB student. A PCR van with a female officer was stationed nearby at the time of the attack.
Authorities are working to apprehend the accused. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stricter action against acid attacks.
