Demonstrating swift action against illegal wildlife and livestock trafficking, the Kalimela Police in Malkangiri district successfully rescued 32 cattle and detained the accused individuals during a raid near Venkatapalam village.
Acting on a reliable tip-off regarding illegal cattle trade in the area, Kalimela Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Prabhudatta Biswal formed a special police team to intercept the operation. Promptly reaching the spot, the team executed a successful raid and safely secured 32 cattle. Following the rescue, a veterinary officer conducted a comprehensive health examination of the animals.
A formal case has been registered at the Kalimela Police Station under Case No. 238/26, invoking sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 11(1)(k) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The detained suspects are currently undergoing intensive interrogation as the investigation expands.
Preliminary findings suggest potential interstate links behind the smuggling ring. Emphasising a zero-tolerance policy, IIC Biswal stated that the interstate cattle mafia will face strict legal consequences, warning that no culprits involved in illegal cattle trafficking will be spared.
