The Odisha government has ordered the closure of Anganwadi centres in eight districts for two days due to Cyclone Montha.
The districts include Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur.
Officials anticipate heavy rainfall and strong winds in these areas on October 28 and 29. The state issued red warnings and directed district collectors to take precautionary measures. The cyclone’s impact is expected to disrupt normal life, prompting authorities to prioritize safety.
In Ganjam district, the collector announced school holidays on October 27 and 28. Additionally, beaches in Gopalpur and Sonapur will remain closed for the next three days to prevent public gatherings near the coast.
The Meteorological Department continues to monitor Cyclone Montha’s trajectory. Emergency teams are on standby, and local administrations are coordinating relief efforts. The government aims to minimize risk and ensure public safety during the cyclone’s landfall.
