A horrifying incident took place near Sunabeda on National Highway 26 in Koraput, where an auto driver lost his life after being attacked by a swarm of bees.
The deceased has been identified as Ravi Narayan Chetty, a resident of the Housing Board. He was on his way to collect his auto from his sister’s house when he was suddenly surrounded and attacked by a large number of bees.
Severely injured from the attack, Ravi was rushed to Shaheed Lakshman Nayak Medical College for urgent treatment. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, leaving his family and community in deep shock.
Local residents have raised concerns over the increasing presence of bee colonies in Koraput city, demanding immediate action from authorities. A similar incident occurred recently near the court premises where several people were injured.
Moreover, reports indicate that in the past few years, multiple fatalities due to bee attacks have occurred in rural parts of the district. Despite this, neither the government nor the local administration has provided financial compensation to affected families. Intellectuals in Koraput are now urging the authorities to classify bee attacks as an emergency and ensure rightful support for the victims’ families.
