A low-pressure system has formed in the central Bay of Bengal, bringing relief from the sweltering heat that has gripped Odisha for days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for rainfall and thunderstorms for multiple districts till April 11, with wind speeds reaching 30–40 kmph in affected areas.
Yellow warnings have been declared for districts including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, and Koraput. Rainfall is expected to bring respite to residents as temperatures remain high in regions like Boudh, which hit a sweltering 42°C recently. While the rain promises relief, caution is advised for areas at risk of severe thunderstorms and gusty winds.
A light to moderate thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall, is likely to affect certain areas in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khandamal, Nuapada, Nawarangpur, and Kalahandi within the next three hours.
Gusty surface winds with speeds reaching 30-40 km/h are expected.
People are advised to monitor the weather closely and move to safer locations to protect themselves from potential lightning strikes.
