Cuttack Cyber Police arrested a couple for creating fake email IDs in the names of doctors and staff of the Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC) in CDA Sector-7 to obtain information through the Right to Information Act.
Police identified the accused as Lakshmidhar Biswal and his wife, Sonali Nayak. Sonali works at the Urban Community Health Centre, while Lakshmidhar is an RTI activist. The couple allegedly used photographs and names of hospital employees to create fraudulent email accounts and filed RTI applications to collect official data.
Hospital staff discovered the misuse of their identities and filed a complaint with the Cuttack Cyber Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police raided the couple’s residence in Astaranga and questioned them. During interrogation, they admitted to creating fake email IDs.
Police registered a case and began a detailed investigation to determine the scale of the fraud and identify possible accomplices. The Cyber Police emphasised that such misuse of digital identities undermines transparency and violates cyber laws.
