CM Naveen Dedicates ‘Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre and Research Institute’ In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday dedicated the 750-bedded ‘Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre and Research Institute’ at Infovalley in Bhubaneswar. The comprehensive Cancer care hospital is dedicated to healing & inspired by hope.

It is worth noting that it has been established in collaboration with Sri Shankar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Bangalore, one of the leading cancer treatment institutes of the country. The 750-bed hospital has facilities to accommodate 300 patients every day with state-of-the-art radiotherapy and chemotherapy for over 150 patients. This hospital is Subroto Bagchi and Sushmita Bagchi’s significant contribution to Odisha.

Attending the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said that this hospital will start a new chapter in the field of cancer treatment by providing quality and affordable treatment to cancer patients in Odisha and East India and through this hospital, one third of the cancer patients of the state will get benefit.

Thanking the Bagchi family and Shri Shankara Cancer Center for this important initiative, the Chief Minister further said, “My government is making continuous efforts to provide better healthcare to the people of the state. Over the past two decades, Odisha has emerged as a leading healthcare sector in eastern India. New medical colleges have been opened in different parts of the state. All health care sectors have been improved, starting with primary health centres. Doctors and paramedical staff are being recruited regularly. This year only around 4,000 doctors have been recruited in the state.”

Highlighting the health care sector of the state, the Chief Minister said that Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana has set a benchmark in health care across the country. Now the infrastructure transformation of all the hospitals of the state is going on under the 5T initiative. The ‘Ama Hospital’ scheme envisages improved infrastructure and quality healthcare along with facilities for patient attendants.

Giving information about cancer care services in the state, the Chief Minister said that arrangements are also being made for cancer treatment in various districts. “We all need to be aware of diseases like cancer. We must change our lifestyle, the Odisha CM said adding “If we all adopt a healthy lifestyle, we can stay away from cancer. If everyone is healthy, our dream of ‘Healthy Odisha, Happy Odisha’ can be fulfilled.”

Joining the event as a guest, Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray said that earlier there were only 3 medical colleges in the state. In 10 years, the Chief Minister has started many new medical colleges and brought a revolutionary change in the healthcare sector. He said that Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital will provide state-of-the-art services in the field of cancer care to the people of the state.

On the occasion of the inauguration, Mr. Subroto Bagchi said, “We have been able to establish this hospital due to the guidance and sincerity of the Chief Minister. The state government has provided 22 acres of land to provide world class medical facilities to the cancer patients of our state. Cancer patients of Odisha no longer need to go to other states as they can get the latest treatment facilities here.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Niranjan Pujari, and 5T & Nabin Odisha Chairman V. Karthik Pandian were present.

It is worth noting that the hospital, built at a cost of Rs 410 crore, has advanced infrastructure and modern medical technology and treatment facilities. Patients can get the most up-to-date and effective medical care through the doctors and nursing staff who have earned the reputation in the field of cancer care in the country. The hospital is also affiliated to the state government’s flagship health scheme BSKY.
