Renowned classical vocalist and harmonium maestro, Pandit Sanjay Ram Marathe, passed away in Thane Hospital, Maharashtra, as confirmed by his family on Monday.
At the age of 68, he succumbed to a severe heart attack and was declared deceased on Sunday night at a private hospital in Thane, his relatives stated.
Pandit Sanjay Marathe, the eldest progeny of the iconic musician Pandit Ram Marathe, has left an indelible mark on Indian classical music and theatre. Celebrated for his harmonium prowess and enchanting vocal performances, he was actively involved in events this year celebrating his father’s centennial.
Together with his sibling Mukund Marathe, Pandit Sanjay Marathe rejuvenated and presented the esteemed Marathi musical drama ‘Sangeet Mandarmala’ in honour of their father’s centenary. The show garnered critical praise for its creative innovations while maintaining the authenticity of traditional Marathi musical theatre.
