Baripada: A minor boy drowned and a minor girl turned critical after they fell into a pond near their anganwadi centre at Khediapesi village under Mahuladiha police station in the Mayurbhanj district on Thursday.
On seeing that the children drowning, the local people rescued them and admitted them to the local hospital. However, the minor boy was declared dead while the minor girl was referred to the Anandpur Hospital as her condition was critical.
The deceased student has been identified as Subham Nayak, and the minor girl is identified as Bhumi Paida.
However, the Anganwadi worker in her response said that she took the children and left them at home after the Anganwadi centre closed.
Later, while doing some work in the centre, he suddenly heard people shouting and came to know that the two children drowned in the pond. With the help of the people, both of them were rescued and brought to the hospital.
