Bride’s Family Attacks In-Laws Over Inter-Caste Marriage In Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: At least five members were critically injured after being attacked by the bride’s family following inter-caste marriage at Tarabha village in Dhenkanal on Thursday.

As per reports, one Pragnya Priyadarshini of Alara village in Narasinghpur block of Cuttack district had secretly tied a nuptial knot with her lover Debendra of Nimataila on May 17.

However, the girl’s family did not agree to the marriage and the matter had reached the police station.

Following this, Priyadarshini decided to live with her husband. Later, irked over the matter, the bride’s family reached Debendra’s house and tried to take her away by threatening her in-laws at gunpoint.

Priyadarshini’s family members attacked her in-laws as they resisted their attempts to take her away.

The injured persons including the newlywed couple were admitted to the Dhenkanal DHH for treatment.

On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter. Police have detained four persons for interrogation, who were involved in this connection. Further investigations are underway, reports added.
