Bhubaneswar: Assistant Engineer Arrested In DA Case

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Manas Ranjan Samal, Assistant Engineer in GPH Division-I of Bhubaneswar and forwarded to the court to Special Vigilance Judge here for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of crores.

On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Asst. Engineer Samal, simultaneous house searches were conducted on October 10 at 7 places in Cuttack, Khurdha & Jagatsinghpur districts by 7 teams of Odisha Vigilance led by 3 DSPs, 11 Inspectors, 2 Sub-Inspectors, 5 ASIs and other staff on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Today, the accused was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and forwarded to the Court. In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No.32 dated 11.10.2022 has been registered against Sri Manas Ranjan Samal, Asst. Engineer and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets as detailed below were unearthed in the name of Manas Ranjan Samal, Asst. Engineer and his family members;

  • One triple-storeyed building over plot No. E/121, Sector-7, CDA, Cuttack.
  • One flat vide No. 206-B, Floor-B Block, Srusti Plaza, Kantilo, Jatani worth Rs.22.76 Lakhs.
  • Single-storeyed building over parental land located at Champatipatna, Salipur, Dist-Cuttack.
  • 2 plots in Phulanakhara, Cuttack & Naranagada, and Khurdha respectively.
  • Bank & Insurance deposits worth over Rs.1.46 Crore.
  • Cash Rs.54,047/-.
  • 1 four-wheeler (Hyundai Verna) worth Rs.12.64 Lakhs.
  • 4 two-wheelers worth over Rs.2.61 Lakhs.
  • Gold worth over Rs.3.04 Lakhs.
  • Household articles worth over Rs.5.34 Lakh.

After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Manas Ranjan Samal, Asst. Engineer, GPH Division-I, Bhubaneswar were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which is 167% higher than his known sources of income. Investigation of the case is in progress, said the Vigilance Directorate, Cuttack.
