We have decided to join duty for a smooth conduct of examination tomorrow as thefuture of lakhs of students is involved in it. But, our token strike will continue here,” said convenor of the lecturers’ association Golak Nayak.

Around 4,500 teachers who were on dharna will take part in the annual test.

The teachers had threatened to boycott the annual Plus II examinations scheduled to start from March 1, if the state government does not revise their salaries and order equal work for equal pay. The lecturers of private colleges of Odisha are also on strike demanding release of grant in aid.

The teachers have been fighting to get equal pay for equal work. They have been alleging they are getting much less salary than their counterparts. The disparity should be cleared by the government by bringing all lecturers under one pay slab, they demanded.

The association members have been staging protest at Mahatma Gandhi Marg for the last three days demanding revision of their salaries.
