Jagannath Temple authorities will open the inner Ratna Bhandar today after 48 years for a detailed inventory.
The temple administration will begin the process under strict security. The treasury key will arrive in the presence of magistrates and officials before unlocking the chamber. The Standard Operating Procedure approved by the state government guided every step.
Chief Administrator Aravind Padhee confirmed that the counting will follow item-wise verification. Officials will match ornaments with the old list and prepare a fresh record. Weighing will not take place this time, but the inventory will ensure accuracy in documentation.
The inner Ratna Bhandar holds immense cultural and spiritual significance. Records show 367 types of gold ornaments weighing 4,364 bhari and 231 types of silver ornaments weighing 14,878 bhari 6 ana. The chamber preserves centuries of heritage linked to Lord Jagannath’s rituals.
Security forces surrounded the temple premises as the process began. The treasury key will return after each day’s counting, maintaining accountability. The administration emphasised caution and transparency throughout the exercise.
The review meeting at the temple office finalised the plan earlier this week. Officials assured that the inventory will conclude smoothly with maximum vigilance. Devotees and citizens expressed curiosity and reverence as the chamber opened after nearly five decades.
