In a major step aimed at preserving public order and enhancing community safety, the Mayurbhanj Police in Odisha have invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against two alleged habitual offenders, Kundan Mukhi and Akash Mukhi.

The action was taken on Thursday after authorities assessed that the duo’s repeated criminal activities posed a serious threat to public peace, security, and law and order in the district.

Police Cite Repeated Criminal Activities

According to police officials, both individuals have a long history of involvement in criminal and anti-social activities. Their alleged actions had reportedly created fear among residents and raised concerns about maintaining normalcy in the region.

Following a detailed review of their criminal records and ongoing activities, law enforcement agencies decided to initiate proceedings under the National Security Act. The NSA is a preventive detention law that allows authorities to detain individuals whose activities are considered harmful to national security, public order, or public safety.

Officials stated that the decision was taken after a careful evaluation of the potential risks posed by the accused. Police believe the move will help prevent further offences and contribute to a safer environment for residents.

Commitment to Public Safety

In an official statement, Mayurbhanj Police reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining law and order.

Authorities emphasized that strict legal action will continue against individuals involved in criminal and anti-social activities that threaten public peace. Police also urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious or unlawful activities in their communities.

The action is part of a broader strategy to strengthen policing efforts, deter repeat offenders, and reassure citizens that public safety remains a top priority.

Similar Action Taken in Ganjam

The latest development comes just days after the Ganjam district administration invoked the National Security Act against alleged repeat offender Sagar Behera on June 2.

Sagar Behera, a resident of Nandagaon under Jarada police limits, was booked under the NSA due to his alleged involvement in multiple serious criminal cases over several years.

Speaking earlier on the issue, Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M stated that authorities are intensifying efforts against anti-social elements by executing non-bailable warrants and pursuing preventive detention measures where necessary.

Police officials maintain that such actions are essential to curb criminal activities and ensure lasting peace and security across Odisha.
