The Indian Premier League 2026 auction will take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16, marking the third straight year the event is being staged outside India.
The auction first moved abroad in 2023, when Dubai hosted the event, followed by Jeddah in Saudi Arabia last year.
BCCI officials confirmed that logistical considerations influenced the decision to keep the auction overseas. Despite speculation about a return to India, the mini-auction will remain a one-day event where all 10 franchises aim to strengthen their squads. Teams have until November 15 to finalise player retentions.
Ahead of the deadline, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have triggered buzz with a potential high-profile trade. Talks suggest a swap between star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, both valued at Rs 18 crore. However, RR reportedly demanded an additional player to release Samson. CSK has not ruled out including another cricketer in the deal.
There are also indications that Sam Curran could be part of the trade equation. Sources suggest Jadeja might even be offered the Royals’ captaincy, though the franchise has remained silent on the matter.
The upcoming auction promises drama both on and off the table, as franchises look to fix weak links and prepare for the 2026 season.
