A series of earthquakes struck parts of China, Tibet, and Nepal early Friday, shaking the Himalayan region within a span of a few hours.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the strongest tremor measured magnitude 4.5 in China at a depth of 10 km.
Earlier, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit Tibet at 12:50 a.m. IST, followed by a 3.4‑magnitude tremor in Nepal at 1:18 a.m. IST. The NCS also recorded a 4.3‑magnitude quake in Tibet late Thursday night at 11:25 p.m. IST.
The four quakes occurred across the Himalayan belt and western China, with depths ranging from 10 km to 130 km. No casualties or major damage have been reported so far, and authorities have not issued any emergency or tsunami warnings.
Experts note that the Himalayan region remains one of the world’s most seismically active zones, driven by the ongoing collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
