Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Delhi’s Karkardooma court for the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the Delhi riots of February 2020.
Announcing the sentence, the court described the crime as “of utmost brutality,” noting that the “savagery did not end with the murder” as Sharma’s body was dragged into a drain nearby.
The conviction marks one of the most high‑profile cases arising from the 2020 communal violence in northeast Delhi, which claimed over 50 lives. The court’s strong remarks underline the severity of the offence and the impact of Hussain’s actions during the riots.
