Balasore: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday caught the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Chandipur Police Station in Balasore while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a liquor trader.
Ganeswar Pradhan, IIC of Chandipur & also in charge IIC of Marine PS and Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, ASI of Chandipur Police Station, were trapped by Odisha Vigilance were collecting Rs. 50,000 as monthly Bati from a Licensed IMFL off shop owner, threatening not to allow him to run his business otherwise.
Based on a complaint, a trap was laid on 19.07.2023, wherein the accused IIC Ganeswar Pradhan, and ASI Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, were caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance while demanding and accepting undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.50,000 from the complainant.
As per the direction of IIC Pradhan, ASI Mohanty received the bribe amount from the complainant near Chandipur Post Office campus adjacent to Chandipur PS. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Sri Mohanty, ASI and seized in the presence of witnesses.
The left-hand wash, as well as the pant pocket wash of ASI Mohanty, gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched at Sagar Darshan Guest House where Sri Pradhan, IIC is residing, his parental house at Arshala, PS-Jhunpura, Dist-Keonjhar and office room as well as Govt. quarter of Sri Mohanty, ASI at Chandipur, his parental house at Itua, PS-Soro, Dist-Balasore and office room respectively. Both the accused persons namely Ganeswar Pradhan, IIC and Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, ASI have been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Balasore Vigilance PS Case No.18 dated 18.07.2023 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
