Mumbai: Swara Bhasker speaks her mind on social media and in her latest post, the actress has extended support to politician Mahua Moitra for her statement on ‘Kaali’ poster.

Her remarks came amid the controversy over the upcoming film ‘Kaali’s poster, which showcased the Goddess smoking. The MP said, “If you go to Bhutan or Sikkim, for example, when they do puja, they give whisky to their god. Now, if you go to Uttar Pradesh and say that you give whisky to your god as prasad, they will say that is blasphemous.”

Leena Manimekalai’s documentary film ‘Kaali’ caused massive controversy after its poster, featuring a woman dressed as Goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette, was slammed by many. While Leena is reportedly facing an FIR, TMC MP Mahua Moitra had also commented on the matter. The politician had stated that ‘Kaali’ to her was a ‘meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess’. She had added that one has the freedom to imagine their goddess. “There are some places where whiskey is offered to gods and in some other places it would be blasphemy,” said Mahua, reports Zoom. Extending support to the politician, Swara tweeted, “@Mahua Moitra is awesome. More power to her voice!” According to ANI, an FIR has been registered against Mahua Moitra in Bhopal under section 295A of IPC for hurting religious sentiments. Meanwhile netizens are trolling Swara Bhasker for supporting Mahua. “Birds of the same feather flock together!” commented one user, while another tweeted, “If her voice gets any more power it would go beyond hearing level of humans already.”
