Deogarh: A district-level workshop on the prevention of child marriage was organised by the Deogarh administration at the district rural development office on Friday.

Presiding the workshop, Deogarh District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay announced reward money of Rs 3000 for them who will inform regarding cases of child marriage in the district.

“Adolescent girls should fight for rights and families should support them. There is a need to empower oneself before looking at the empowerment of the community. Child marriage is a crime and it has to be stopped. We have taken such an initiative in the district to stop such acts,” addressed Upadhyay.

“I urge every citizen of Deogarh to cooperate with us in a bid to fight against such unethical works. The administration is also taking various steps but first of all the locals have to understand the moral values of a child and change their mindset,” he added.

“Every scheme set by the government will work well if people avail it and all family members should understand the responsibility for availing the benefit,” he further added.

Issues such as how the children can get the opportunity to express themselves more in life, how to be a leader for change, why there is a lack of scholarship to pursue higher education and why the sanitary napkin distributed by the government comes with a cost were also discussed in the workshop.

The workshop was attended by Project Director Lucas Pradhan, District Child Protection Officer Romeo Mohapatra, District Education Officer Sachitananda Behera and all district level officials and village panchayat sarpanches.
