Uttrakhand: At least 10 people died due to electrocution after a transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Wednesday, ANI reported. The incident occured at the site of the Namami Gange project.

“Ten people died and several injured after a transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Chamoli district. Injured have been admitted to the district hospital,” ANI quoted SP Chamoli Parmendra Doval as saying.

The tragedy comes as Uttarakhand has been hit by heavy rains, with water levels increasing in rivers. A flood alert has been issued for Chamoli, Haridwar, Rudraprayag areas.
