Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the Reb riverbank under Bodak Panchayat in Tihidi block of Bhadrak district on Friday morning.
Villagers spotted the body lying near the river and immediately informed the Tihidi police. Inspector-in-Charge Lopamudra Nayak reached the spot, seized the body, and began an investigation.
Officers noticed injury marks on the woman’s head, raising suspicion that miscreants killed her and dumped the body near the riverbank. Police shared photographs of the deceased to help establish her identity and requested locals to inform the station if they recognised her.
The incident has triggered tension in the area, with residents demanding swift action. Police assured that they will intensify the investigation to trace the culprits and uncover the circumstances behind the suspected murder.
Authorities said the body will undergo a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
