The Excise Commissioner suspended Sub‑Inspector Chhayakanta Nayak and Assistant Sub‑Inspector Pradeep Mallik from Pattamundai Excise Police Station in Kendrapara on Thursday after allegations of third‑degree torture surfaced.
The action followed a complaint filed by a youth named Binod, who alleged that excise personnel assaulted him during a raid in Baradia village under the Rajnagar area. Sources said Nayak and his team raided the village over a suspected illicit liquor trade after Binod tipped them off. When Binod began filming the raid on his phone, the officials allegedly detained and assaulted him.
Binod later approached the Rajnagar Police Station and lodged a complaint against six persons, including the SI. Police registered a case and initiated a probe. Based on preliminary findings, the Excise Commissioner ordered the suspension of both officers.
Investigators confirmed that forensic and legal examination of the incident is underway. Authorities stressed that strict action will follow if evidence substantiates the allegations.
