Bangiriposhi: Two persons were severely injured following an attack by a wild bear at Ghatiduba village under Bangriposhi forest range in Mayurbhanj district.
The injured are identified as Jitray Hansda (60) and Shankar Marandi (30). Reports said Hansda was confronted with the bear when he had gone to the forest to tend cattle and goats. As the bear attacked him, he fought with the animal for nearly one hour before being rescued by Marandi.
Marandi came to the rescue of Hansda after hearing his cry for help. Both Hansda and Marandi have been badly bruised by the animal. They have been shifted to Bangiriposhi CHC for treatment and sent to Pandit Raghunath Murmu medical college and hospital after their condition deteriorated.
Former Block Chairman of Bangiriposhi Priya Marandi met them at the hospital and provided financial help.
Villagers have alleged that man-animal conflict has become order of the day in Bangiriposhi range area and added that the local forest wing has failed to curb the menace.
