Police have arrested two youths in connection with the highway firing incident near Litibeda forest under Kutra police limits in Sundaragada district.
On July 8, a truck carrying stone chips (registration number JH 07 K 4252) was attacked by five miscreants who arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire. The assailants reportedly fired five rounds at the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Acting swiftly, Kutra police launched an investigation and, within days, arrested two accused – Mohammad Hanan (21) and Mohammad Tafsir (19), both residents of Khatakurabahal village. The duo was produced in court on Saturday.
Police said a firearm and a motorcycle used in the crime were seized during the operation. Sundargarh SP Amritpal Kaur supervised the investigation, forming three special teams to track down the culprits.
Authorities confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining three accused, with raids being conducted at multiple locations.
