Twin explosions were reported in Damascus, Syria, on Tuesday near the hotel hosting French President Emmanuel Macron, prompting heightened security measures across parts of the capital. Authorities quickly sealed off roads around the area while emergency personnel responded to the scene.
According to initial reports from security sources, the explosions occurred close to the Four Seasons Hotel, where Macron’s delegation was staying during his landmark visit to Syria.
Explosions Reported Near Macron’s Hotel
News agency Reuters, citing a security source, reported that multiple explosive devices detonated near the hotel housing the French president.
Officials immediately tightened security around the area, restricting access to nearby roads while investigators assessed the scene.
Social media videos showed smoke rising from the vicinity of the explosions, although authorities had not immediately released details about casualties or the extent of the damage.
Macron Was Not at the Hotel
According to the Élysée Palace, President Macron had already left the hotel earlier in the day for official meetings at the Syrian Presidential Palace when the explosions occurred.

Macron’s Historic Visit to Syria
President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Syria on Monday, becoming the first European Union leader to visit the country since the fall of the Assad government in 2024.
The visit is viewed as a significant diplomatic milestone as Syria seeks to rebuild international ties following years of conflict and political transition.
Macron is scheduled to hold talks with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa on issues including regional stability, reconstruction and economic cooperation.
The French leader is also accompanied by senior business executives, including representatives from CMA CGM and TotalEnergies, reflecting France’s interest in strengthening economic engagement with Syria.
Security Concerns Remain High
The explosions come only days after another bombing near the Justice Palace in Damascus, where an explosive device detonated at a café, resulting in multiple casualties.
Tuesday’s incident highlights the ongoing security challenges facing Syria despite a period of relative regional calm following the recent conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Investigations into both explosions are continuing, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
