A serious incident occurred today at Kurli Anganwadi Centre near Kantabanji in Balangir district when a cement slab suddenly fell from the roof, injuring three children.
Two girls and one boy sustained injuries while attending class.
Panic spread inside the centre immediately after the accident. Local residents and Anganwadi workers rushed to rescue the children and shifted them to Kantabanji hospital for treatment. Doctors confirmed that their treatment is ongoing.
The incident triggered anger among villagers, who blamed poor construction quality and negligence in maintenance for the collapse. Parents demanded strict action against those responsible and called for urgent inspection of safety measures at Anganwadi centres.
Community members alleged irregularities in construction work and urged the administration to conduct a thorough investigation. They insisted on exemplary punishment for those found guilty of negligence.
