In a dramatic incident at the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal (BSABT) in Baramunda, three women, including a minor girl, were rescued by security personnel after allegedly escaping from individuals who were attempting to take them out of the district against their will.

The incident occurred on Monday night and triggered panic among passengers and staff at one of Odisha’s busiest transport hubs.

Women Escape and Seek Refuge Inside Bus Terminal

According to preliminary reports, the women were allegedly being taken away by individuals associated with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) linked to an ashram.

Sensing danger, the women reportedly managed to escape and ran into the bus terminal premises seeking help.

In an effort to avoid being caught, they moved through different sections of the terminal and hid in nearby lanes as well as beneath parked buses.

Panic at Baramunda Bus Terminal

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of confusion as several women employees allegedly linked to the NGO were seen chasing the victims inside the bus stand.

The unusual activity drew the attention of commuters and terminal security staff, prompting immediate intervention.

The incident created concern among passengers waiting at the terminal, with many gathering to understand what was happening.

Security Personnel Act Swiftly

Alert security personnel stationed at the bus terminal quickly responded and located the women.

During preliminary questioning, the rescued individuals reportedly informed security staff that they were being taken away against their wishes.

Following the rescue operation, the women were safely escorted and handed over to police officials at the BSABT outpost.

Victims Shifted to Short-Stay Home

Police later moved the women to a short-stay home to ensure their safety while further inquiries are conducted.

Officials are currently working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and verify the allegations made by the rescued women.

Police Examine CCTV Footage

As part of the investigation, police have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the bus terminal and nearby areas.

The footage is expected to help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events and identify all individuals involved.

Authorities are also examining whether any criminal offences, including wrongful confinement or attempted abduction, may have occurred.

Investigation Underway

Police have not yet released detailed information regarding the identities of the individuals involved or the organisation allegedly linked to the incident.

Officials stated that all aspects of the case are being examined and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of surveillance systems and prompt security intervention at major public transport facilities.

Further details are expected to emerge as police continue questioning witnesses and reviewing available evidence.
