A speeding truck crushed a mother and daughter to death on National Highway 26 near the Bajaj showroom in Gandhi Nagar Pada, Bolangir, on Tuesday morning.
The victims were riding a scooter when the truck hit them and fled immediately after the collision.
Eyewitnesses alerted the police, who reached the spot and recovered the bodies. The victims died instantly due to severe injuries. The daughter was reportedly dropping her mother, who worked at a local nursing home, when the accident occurred.
Police launched an investigation to trace the absconding driver and the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. The tragic incident has sparked outrage among residents, who demanded strict enforcement of traffic rules and installation of speed-control measures along the busy highway stretch.
