The Odisha government has launched a major voter verification exercise ahead of the upcoming electoral roll revision, with more than 9.8 lakh names already removed from the voter list, according to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha.

Officials said the state currently has around 3.34 crore registered voters, while the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise will begin formally from May 30 with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting door-to-door verification across Odisha.

Door-to-Door Voter Verification From May 30

As part of the SIR process, BLOs will visit households across the state between May 30 and June 28 to verify voter details and ensure the electoral rolls remain accurate and updated.

The Election Department has scheduled preparation, training and printing-related work between May 20 and May 29 before the field verification process begins.

Authorities said the exercise aims to identify duplicate entries, incorrect information and ineligible voters.

The Chief Electoral Officer also stated that individuals who are not Indian citizens will be removed from the voter list during the verification process.

Claims and Objections Window Announced

Citizens will get an opportunity to raise objections or submit claims regarding voter details during a special window from July 5 to August 4.

After reviewing all claims and corrections, the final voter list will be published on September 9.

Election officials have urged voters to cooperate with BLOs during the verification drive to avoid errors or omissions in the electoral rolls.

Odisha Has 3.34 Crore Registered Voters

According to official data, Odisha currently has nearly 3.34 crore voters.

The CEO informed that around 94.61% voter mapping work has already been completed as part of the revision process.

Once the SIR exercise concludes, Odisha is expected to have 45,255 polling booths across the state.

Officials also said that each polling booth will accommodate around 1,200 voters to improve election management and voter accessibility.

Focus on Transparent and Accurate Electoral Rolls

The large-scale revision exercise comes amid growing focus on maintaining accurate and transparent electoral rolls before future elections.

Election authorities said the verification process is designed to strengthen the integrity of the electoral system while ensuring that all eligible citizens remain included in the voter list.

Political parties and citizens are expected to closely monitor the SIR process as the state moves toward the publication of the revised electoral rolls later this year.
