A finance company employee was robbed of Rs 70,000 in cash after being ambushed by three miscreants while returning to Jeypore on Monday evening.
The victim, identified as Naresh Sardar (20) of Save Finance Company, had collected loan repayments from self‑help groups in Baipariguda. Around 7:30 pm, while riding back with the money, his bike was rammed by a speeding scooter near Burudiput–Cherkaput road.
Naresh fell to the ground, and within minutes two more men arrived on another bike. The trio allegedly assaulted him, threatened him with a knife, and forcibly snatched his bag containing Rs 70,000, an identity card, and a power bank.
The accused fled the scene immediately after the attack. Naresh lodged a complaint at Baipariguda police station, prompting an investigation. Police have begun efforts to identify the culprits and recover the stolen cash and belongings.
