A major technical snag disrupted the Hatia‑Puri Tapaswini Express (18452) on Monday night when several coaches detached shortly after leaving Bhubaneswar railway station.
The incident occurred around 9:30 pm, barely 500 metres from the station. The second and third coaches separated, leaving the engine and two coaches moving ahead while the rest of the train stopped near Malisahi. Passengers inside the stranded coaches grew anxious as the train halted abruptly without the engine.
Railway staff discovered the problem only after the engine and two coaches reached near Mancheswar station. Officials quickly responded, brought the detached coaches together, and reassembled the train. The journey resumed at 10:20 pm.
Preliminary findings indicated that a coupling clip had dislodged, and the vacuum system failed to function properly. A senior railway official explained that such incidents can occur when coupling clips loosen, though the issue was not considered a major defect.
