A senior United States Space Force official’s Instagram account was reportedly compromised by suspected Iranian hackers, raising fresh concerns about cyber warfare and online propaganda amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The account belonged to Chief Master Sergeant John Bentivegna, the highest-ranking enlisted member of the US Space Force. According to reports, hackers temporarily gained control of the account and posted pro-Iran content, videos, and anti-US messages before authorities began efforts to regain access.
Pro-Iran Posts Appear on Hacked Account
Several posts shared from the compromised account reportedly praised Iran and criticized US military involvement in the Middle East. Some content referenced historical conflicts, including the Vietnam War, and featured messages aimed at American military personnel.
One video reportedly used audio associated with the late Vietnamese broadcaster known as “Hanoi Hannah,” urging US troops to abandon what it described as a losing mission. The content also included imagery connected to prominent Iranian figures.
The unusual posts quickly attracted attention online before being removed.
Space Force Confirms Security Breach
A spokesperson for the US Space Force confirmed that Bentivegna’s Instagram account had been compromised. However, officials did not provide details regarding how long the unauthorized content remained visible or who was responsible for the cyber intrusion.
In a separate statement posted through official channels, Bentivegna warned colleagues and followers not to interact with any suspicious content or links shared from the affected account.
“We are working with the appropriate teams to regain access and resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” he stated.
Growing Cyber Threats During US-Iran Conflict
The incident comes amid increasing cyber threats linked to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. American military officials have repeatedly warned personnel that their online accounts, mobile devices, and personal information could be targeted by hostile actors.
