Nayapalli Police arrested three accused and recovered stolen gold and mobile phones in connection with a violent chain snatching incident reported on March 16.
Gitanjali Sahoo (58), a resident of IRC Village, filed a complaint stating that two unknown persons assaulted her near Plot No. N-1/102 during her morning walk and snatched her mangalsutra, weighing approximately 10 grams. She sustained neck injuries and was hospitalised.
Police identified a coordinated pattern in recent thefts. One accused waits on a motorcycle with the engine running while the other targets victims and escapes immediately after snatching valuables. Chain snatching typically occurs in the early morning, while mobile thefts spike during evening and late-night hours.
Arrest and Seizure
Police apprehended the accused near N-3 Park and recovered stolen items from a mobile shop in Bhoi Sahi. Seized items include:
- One gold mangalsutra
- Two gold chains
- Fifty mobile phones
- One Honda Unicorn 160 bike (OD 02 BW 2906)
Accused Details
- Sukru Patra (26) – Involved in 15 cases across Bharatpur, Nayapalli, Khandagiri, and Badagada.
- Suman Mallick (20) – Linked to 8 cases in Bharatpur, Nayapalli, Capital, and other areas.
- Bikash Dash (30) – Connected to 4 cases in Bharatpur, Nayapalli, and Khandagiri.
Police formed a special team to crack the racket. All three accused will be forwarded to court.
