Ben Duckett’s Sledge to Gill Backfires as England Dismisses India Captain for 6 in Lord’s Test

England’s Ben Duckett got personal on Day 4 of the ongoing Lord’s Test, delivering an icy sledge aimed at India skipper Shubman Gill — but his words proved prophetic. Gill, fresh off a record-breaking series, was dismissed for just 6 shortly after the remark.

Gill walked in to bat after Karun Nair was dismissed by Brydon Carse in the 13th over. England players, still riled up over the heated exchange between Indian players and Zak Crawley on Day 3, welcomed the Indian captain with audible taunts. Duckett, strolling past Gill, sneered, “600 runs and he is done for this series. 600 runs is enough for this fella.”

Just a few deliveries later, Carse struck. A sharp nip-backer caught Gill on the pads, beating the inside edge. Gill reviewed the on-field LBW decision, but ball-tracking showed three reds, confirming his dismissal for 6.

While his second-innings contribution was minimal, Gill’s 600-plus runs in the series — including a historic double century at Birmingham — saw him break Rahul Dravid’s 2002 record (602 runs) for the most runs by an Indian in a Test series in England. Virat Kohli (593 runs in 2018) is now third on the list.

Earlier in the day, Joe Root anchored England’s resistance with a solid 67-run stand alongside Ben Stokes before falling for 40 to Washington Sundar. The Indian all-rounder played a pivotal role, ending with remarkable figures of 4 for 22 as England were bundled out for 192 in their second innings.

India will resume play on the final day at 58/4, with KL Rahul unbeaten on 33 and a tricky chase ahead.
